Polyacrylamide (PAM) is a linear organic polymer and also a polymer water treatment flocculant product. It can absorb suspended particles in water, play the role of linking and bridging between particles, making small particles form larger flocs and speeding up the sedimentation rate. This process is called flocculation. Due to its good flocculation effect, PAM is widely used in sewage treatment as a flocculant in water treatment.

The food industry has a wide range of raw materials and products. The amount and quality of discharged wastewater vary greatly. COD, BOD, SS and oil content in wastewater are relatively high. It is a kind of high-concentration organic wastewater, which is extremely harmful to water bodies and environmental pollution. Due to the wide variety of polyacrylamide products, different factories use different raw materials and the quality of waste water produced, and PAM models are also different. Generally, experimental selection is required to determine the appropriate polyacrylamide model and dosage.
How to use polyacrylamide and matters needing attention:
1. Powder or granular polyacrylamide cannot be directly added to sewage, it must be dissolved in water before use, and then its aqueous solution is added to sewage in a certain proportion.
2. The water for dissolving PAM should be clean tap water. Generally, the pH value of tap water can meet the requirements of preparing flocculant solution.
3. The water temperature should not exceed 60℃, just normal temperature.
4. The concentration of polyacrylamide PAM solution is generally 0.1 to 0.3%.
5. Due to the poor shear performance of polyacrylamide, long-term and high-speed stirring will cause product degradation and reduce its use effect. Generally, the stirring speed during dissolution is preferably between 60 and 120 revolutions per minute.
6. During the dissolution process, the speed of adding the flocculant should be slowed down as much as possible, and at the same time, it should be slowly scattered into the vortex of the water to avoid the flocculant particles from sticking to each other after entering the water.
7. Store the prepared polyacrylamide solution. Cationic polyacrylamide should not be used for one day, and anionic PAM should not be used for two days to avoid degradation.
